TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. Anyone older than 18 years old and younger than 29 years old, regardless of their country of residence and nationality, will be able to participate, on the next subjects: Self-portrait (How am I and Who am I). AUT Social group (My group, band, tribe, crew, gang, buddies and me, What do we do? What do we like?). GRUP Chronicle The best party, rave, concert, hike, day out, picnic, spiritual trip, sports, etc. (How do I have fun or How do we have fun). CRO Diversity I recognize those different than me (What I like, what I don’t like, what I share or what impresses me of those that are different than me). DIV The best photos in any of these subjects will be awarded according to the next categories assigned by age and photographic experience.*

* Only individual or series of photos by young amateurs or professionals will be awarded in this contest. A professional is a person that earns a living with photography or publishes his/her pictures in any media, be it printed or electronic, and earns wages for it.

2. CATEGORIES

CATEGORY A. 18 to 24 years (amateurs) CATEGORY B. 25 to 29 years (amateurs) CATEGORY C. 18 to 22 years (professionals) CATEGORY D. 23 to 29 years (professionals) The minimum entry age is 18 years to July 21st, that is to say, people becoming 18 years old on July 22nd cannot enter. The maximum entry age is 29 years to July 22nd, which means that is a person becomes 30 years old on July 21st he/she cannot enter. Each category’s maximums and minimums will be calculated in the same way.

3. AWARDS

The contest “Youth in the Mirror”, will give the next awards: CATEGORY A. 18 to 24 years (amateurs) 1st place. Eight thousand pesos or its equivalent in American dollars at the exchange rate of the day of the awarding, a diploma and participation of the awarded photo in the exposition. 2nd place Five thousand pesos or its equivalent in American dollars at the exchange rate of the day of the awarding, a diploma and participation of the awarded photo in the exposition. 3rd place (a diploma and participation of the awarded photo in the exposition). Participation of selected photos in the exposition.

CATEGORY B. 25 to 29 years (amateurs).

1st place. Fifteen thousand pesos or its equivalent in American dollars at the exchange rate of the day of the awarding, a diploma and participation of the awarded photo in the exposition. 2nd place. Ten thousand pesos or its equivalent in American dollars at the exchange rate of the day of the awarding, a diploma and participation of the awarded photo in the exposition. 3rd place Five thousand pesos or its equivalent in American dollars at the exchange rate of the day of the awarding, a diploma and participation of the awarded photo in the exposition. Participation of selected photos in the exposition.

CATEGORY C. 18 to 22 years (professionals).

1st place. Twenty thousand pesos or its equivalent in American dollars at the exchange rate of the day of the awarding, a diploma and participation of the awarded photo in the exposition. 2nd place. Fifteen thousand pesos or its equivalent in American dollars at the exchange rate of the day of the awarding, a diploma and participation of the awarded photo in the exposition. 3rd place. Five thousand pesos or its equivalent in American dollars at the exchange rate of the day of the awarding, a diploma and participation of the awarded photo in the exposition. Participation of selected photos in the exposition.

CATEGORY D. 23 to 29 years (professionals)

1st place. Thirty thousand pesos or its equivalent in American dollars at the exchange rate of the day of the awarding, a diploma and participation of the awarded photo in the exposition. 2nd place. Twenty thousand pesos or its equivalent in American dollars at the exchange rate of the day of the awarding, a diploma and participation of the awarded photo in the exposition. 3rd place.Ten thousand pesos or its equivalent in American dollars at the exchange rate of the day of the awarding, a diploma and participation of the awarded photo in the exposition. Participation of selected photos in the exposition.

4. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ENTRIES

I. Technical aspects. For the selection process the size of the images must be 1200 pixels wide and resolution of 72 DPI, JPEG formats and low definition. In case of being selected (with previous notices) he/she shall send his/her photographs in high definition in TIFF format. Images submitted must have an origin quality that allows their printing for the exposition. In the amateurs categories, images must be taken in high definition from the beginning; for professionals, images must be taken in high or RAW quality. In case of not fulfilling this requirement, entries will be discarded even if selected.

II. Photos submitted to the contest must be original and unpublished (in any newspaper, magazine or book, be it printed or online).

III. Photos awarded in other contests will not be accepted.

IV.
Every photo submitted to this contest is the sole responsibility of its author, as well as any complaint on the copyright.

V.
When submitting a photo or series of photos it is understood that the participant is the author of the photos and therefore holds every right.

VI. Each participant can send up to 10 photographs if they are single images.

VII. In the case of documentaries or reports, participants can send up to 15.

VIII. Each participant can submit more than one photo and more than one series, report or documentary.

IX.
Photo storyboards are allowed; indicate the photographic genre, as long as it can be placed under the themes of this call.

X.
Offensive or insulting photos towards individuals or groups will not be accepted.

XI. Only photos taken in the period between January 1st 2008 and the closing date of this call will be accepted.

XII. The closing date will be July 20th 2010.

XIII. Photos submitted to this contest shall necessarily have a quality that allows their printing for an exposition.

XIV. Any photo that doesn’t comply with these specifications will be automatically disqualified.

5. RESTRICTIONS

Members or workers of the IMJUVE, or participants in the organizing process of the World Youth Conference cannot enter the contest.

6. REGISTRATION

A) In order to obtain a registration number, each participant must send the next information to jovenesenelespejo@gmail.com, so as to obtain a pre-registration number:

They will immediately receive a preregistration number that shall accompany each submitted photo. In this way each photo will be identified by its number, category and acronym of the theme. Each participant will be able to identify more than a photo in this way: Example: 543AGRUP1 543 (assigned preregistration number) A (category) GRUP (theme) 1 (photo number) If it is a SERIES, an S will be added to the theme and will be identified in this way: 543BGRUPS1, 543BCROS2, 543BCROS3 543 (assigned preregistration number) B (category) GRUP (theme) S (series) 1 (photo number) This code will be the name and last name of each image, considering that the number identifies the author, the first letter identifies the category, the acronyms the theme, and the digits the number of photos and the order or sequence the photos must follow. Each photo shall have the next information sent in an attached Word file:

B) The description will depend on each theme. For example, if it is a Self-portrait (AUT) the author shall explain who he/she is, how he/she is, why he/she recognizes himself/herself in that self-portrait. It if is a Group (GRUP) the author shall explain to which group it belongs, which are the main characteris- tics of the group, what they are doing and what they like to share as a group. If it is a Chronicle (CRO), the author shall tell a story through images about a party, a concert, a day out, any ritual or game, and the story must be integrated and written succinctly as well. If it deals with Diversity (DIV) the images must explain this: why this person or group is different and what does he/she likes/dislikes, as well as the activities being carried out by other people or groups different than the participant.

C) Photos and the explanatory text in each image shall be integrated in a single ZIP folder identified with the pre-inscription number. The folder must contain the photos identified as previously specified. D) Once the Organizing Committee has verified all this data, it will send a confirmation code to the participant and will inform if the photographs are duly registered and inside the contest.

7. JUDGES

I. The Organizing Committee will designate a panel of judges composed of three photographers with international experience that will select the winners and the photos that will participate in the exposition at the World Youth Conference 2010.

II. The judges will be professionals with moral qualities and international experience, whose names will be kept in secret until the results of the contest are revealed.

III. The Organizing Committee recognizes that the decision of the judges cannot be contested; it will be made public on July 23rd 2010 in a press conference and through the official webpage of the IMJUVE and the World Youth Conference 2010.

8. GENERAL INFORMATION

By entering this competition the participant agrees that the Mexican Institute of Youth can use the photographic material and all the submitted images for campaigns of the IMJUVE and World Conference, books, magazines, newspapers, posters, cards and webpage, for the period of a year starting on the date of publication of the results, always respecting the authorship of the photographs. The moment the participant fills the application form for this contest he/she accepts these terms and conditions and the compromises of the call. With the purpose of projecting and diffusing the photographs an exposition will be exhibited in the framework of the World Conference 2010 in the city of León, Guanajuato, with a national and world tour afterwards.

9. CALENDAR OF THE CONTEST June 4th. Opening of the call. From this date on, photographs can be submitted to the contest until July 20th 2010.

July 21-22nd. Meeting of the judges to go through the material and give their verdict.

July 23rd. The results of the contest and the names of the judges will be published in a press conference and through the IMJUVE and WYC 2010 web pages. The verdict cannot be contested.

July 23-30th. The selected images shall be delivered in HD for their printing.

August 23rd. Opening of the exposition with the winning images, the honorable mentions (in case they exist) and the selected pictures, as well as the official awarding ceremony.

August 27th Official awarding in the framework of the World Youth Conference.
